Fine Tuning
The first step of our animation process is to serve our clients with a carefully researched and polished script, weaving their scientific and value messaging into a narrative that will resonate with the target audience. A script is more than a simple assemblage of scientific statements. We take into account cognitive factors that operate below the viewer’s perception threshold to enhance interest, memory retention, and recall, all while driving a visually fluid and easy-to-follow story.
We believe that the best way to help our clients stand out is to create imagery that is as unique as their story. Using a style development method refined over twenty years, we assemble a collection of inspiration imagery that galvanizes color palette, illumination, mood and shape for the animation. When we present the style board to our clients, we listen to what they love and don’t love, laying the foundation for the look of the film.
We hand-draw a series of images to plan out all of the scenes and events in the video based on the looks established in the style exploration. Our storyboard artists perform in-depth visual research, using everything from light and electron microscopy to x-ray crystallographic data to ensure that the visual plan for the film reflects the most up-to-date scientific understanding of the concepts being described.
During core production time, geometries are built and rigged, particle systems programmed, materials crafted, lighting and camera work established, footage rendered and composited, and video sequences edited together. As each scene is developed, we provide clients with finished still imagery of the work in progress so that they can see how the style and storyboard are manifesting into the final imagery. All of the major technical hurdles are overcome in this phase, and the first version of the animation is assembled complete with HD output, music, and stand-in narration.
After the first version, every deliverable is treated as a complete and deployable end product. Thanks to our well-established system for maintaining alignment with our clients goals and expectations, typically there are only one or two rounds before the animation is accepted as finished. However, in addition to our guarantee of accuracy, our contract includes up to three rounds of refinement for a total of four high-quality animated deliverables. In addition, we also offer unlimited alternative edits, so if our clients would like individual sequences or high-resolution stills of a given segment, those can be requested any time at no additional cost. Our goal is to provide a long-lasting centerpiece for your scientific communications campaign.
